Methodology & calculation rule
Calendar Days = End Date − Start Date (Inclusive: +1 day)
By default, the start date is counted and the end date is excluded (measuring nights or elapsed span). Toggle Include End Date (+1 day) for inclusive event spans.
Civil date intervals operate on calendar positions rather than continuous 24-hour physical increments, avoiding daylight-saving anomalies. Start dates are included by default while end dates are excluded unless explicitly toggled.
All computations run locally on your device in real-time. No dates, notes, or calculation histories are transmitted to any server.
Real-World Context & Technical Standards
Exclusive vs. Inclusive Spans
In hotel bookings, rental car agreements, and calendar math, the difference between dates (End Date - Start Date) counts nights or elapsed intervals. If counting both active boundary dates (e.g. an event running Monday through Friday), add 1 to the raw day difference.
Schengen 90/180 Rolling Calculation
Under EU border regulations, non-EU travelers can stay for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day window. Both arrival date and departure date count as active presence dates in Schengen territory.
Actual/Actual vs. 30/360 Day-Count Conventions
In bond markets and commercial lending, 'Actual/Actual' counts the precise calendar days between two dates, whereas '30/360' conventions treat every full month as exactly 30 days regardless of calendar length.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does an online date calculator show 1 day less than my manual count?
Most calculators calculate the distance between dates (End Date − Start Date). If both boundary days are active (e.g. an event running Monday through Friday), enable "Include end date (+1 day)".
Are public holidays automatically deducted?
No. The tool calculates civil calendar days and Monday-to-Friday weekdays. Regional statutory holidays vary and must be deducted according to your organization policy.
How are leap years handled?
Calculations use Gregorian calendar rules. Leap years (such as 2024 and 2028) include February 29th automatically in the total day count.
